Industrial Ergonomics: Guidelines for Lifting and Moving Materials to Prevent Injury

Strains account for 26% of all Pinnacol Assurance claims and strains due to lifting cost Pinnacol over $30 million annually in incurred costs. Traditional approaches to controlling lifting injuries, such as body mechanics training and stretching programs, have not been successful in reducing injuries. Participants will learn the most effective strategies for reducing the frequency and severity of lifting and manual handling injury claims. This class is targeted at policyholders who work in an industrial setting such as manufacturing, warehousing, construction, and food processing. At the end of this class you will be able to:
- Assess the risk of injury to employees who are lifting and moving materials
- Identify safe methods to mitigate Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD) injuries
- Apply ergonomic design principles for; lifting and moving materials, industrial workstation setup and layout, and driving
